While current Certified ScrumMasters are welcome to attend, this class should not be considered as a next step after taking the CSM Class, but instead should be viewed as an alternative to the CSM Class.

Class Description

An in-depth two day immersion into the world of Agile Product Management.

Even projects that have solid, well-defined project plans encounter some degree of change and waste. Shifting market conditions, budget cuts, staff restructuring, or any number of influences will disrupt the best plan while contributing to customer dissatisfaction and staff discouragement. Moreover, projects that begin with changing or unclear requirements make it difficult to even establish project expectations. Scrum is the agile development process that allows teams to deliver usable software periodically throughout the life of the project, absorbing change and new requirements as the project proceeds.

As we move through the disciplines promoted by Scrum you will gain a comprehensive understanding of this agile product development methodology while specifically reviewing the behaviors expected of a Product Owner. While many of us may be accustomed to the practice of establishing value and priority across projects, the Product Owner needs to consider value and priority across the features of a single project.

Course Outline

Short exercises and case studies will be scattered throughout the two-day session. Longer exercises are detailed below. Time spent on each topic will vary depending on the composition of the class and the interest in particular areas.

Day 1

I. Agile Thinking – In order for us to understand the benefits of Scrum and the nuances behind its framework, we begin with the history of agile methods and how relatively new thoughts in software development have brought us to Scrum.

d. The complexity of projects
e. Theoretical Vs. Empirical processes overview
f. The “Iron Triangle” of Project Management

Exercise: The “Art of the Possible.” This is an opportunity to understand how small changes in behavior can have a large impact on productivity. This also turns our thinking towards new ideas and a willingness to change for the better.

Exercise: The Ball Point Game”, courtesy of Boris Gloger. Project simulation is designed to expose different agile concepts in practice, allowing participants to experience work in an iterative, self-managed environment.

II. The Scrum Framework – Here we’ll ensure that we’re all working from the same foundational concepts that make up the Scrum Framework.

Exercise: The 59-minute Scrum Simulation. This popular exposure to Scrum asks us to work on a short project that lasts for just 59 minutes! We’ll actually take more time than that as we walk through all of the key steps under the Scrum framework, work in project teams to deliver a new product.

III. Scrum Roles – Who are the different players in the Scrum game? We’ll review checklists of role expectations and discuss some difficult situations that we might encounter.

Exercise: This is a long-running exercise that carries through into our remaining sections that follow where we will discuss and practice various aspects of product and project planning in an agile Scrum environment.

Day 2

IV. The Product Backlog, Product Visioning, and Progressive Elaboration. The Scrum Team must have an understanding of our Product Vision so they can make good decisions. The Product Backlog is a reflection of that vision, and we’ll practice developing its content.

Course registration information:

If for any reason you are not satisfied with the program, simply notify the instructor or registrar of your intent to withdraw from the program prior to the first morning break, turn in your course materials and receive a 100% refund. If at the end of the program day, you are unsatisfied with the program, we will credit your tuition towards a future program of your choice.

Payment Policy:
Payment is required at time of registration. Approved forms of payment include a company purchase order, PayPal, or credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

All courses are available as onsite training at your location. On-site options can be very cost effective.

Course Hours:
This course begins promptly at 8:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM, unless otherwise noted on the course page or in email notifications. Please arrive at 8:00 AM on the first morning of class to sign-in and meet your fellow attendees.

Shipping of Course Materials:
In an effort to reduce paper waste, course materials for live-online sessions will be digital. You will recieve information on how to obtain your course materials in your confirmation email.

Substitution & Cancellation Policy: 
If a change needs to be made to your public course registration (cancel, transfer, or substitution) Project Consults must receive written notice via email at sales@projectconsults.com. If a cancel or transfer request is made less than 15 business days prior to the class start date, payment will still be due, no refunds will be issued and you will be charged a $200 change fee. Your paid tuition will be available for one year to be used as a credit towards another course of equal value; only one reenrollment opportunity is allowed. Failure to attend the course without written notification will result in forfeiture of the full course price. Student substitutions may be made at any time prior to the start of class free of charge. If a student substitution is made for a live, online session and any hard-copy materials have been provided to the initial student, it is the responsibility of the client to pass along those materials to the new attendee. If Project Consults is forced to cancel a course for any reason, liability is limited to the registration fee only. In certain situations, Project Consults may not have the required enrollment to hold a course as scheduled. We do our best to confirm every class, but our main mission is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to have a positive impact on their work performance. Based on this, should there be a cancellation for a class you are enrolled in, Project Consults will proactively automatically enroll you into the next available live, online session of the same course to provide you with the knowledge you originally needed. You will be notified during this process and have the ability to work with an Project Consults representative regarding alternate options if you are unable to attend the new session.

Substitution & Cancellation Policy (PMP Boot Camp): 
If you are unable to attend your scheduled training class, please contact us directly at 469-424-1084. We require a 16 calendar day notice to reschedule or to cancel any registration (and receive refund for payment). Failure to provide the required notification will result in a 100% charge of the course fee. If a student does not attend a scheduled course without prior notification, or contacts us to cancel within the notification window, the student will have the option to pay a $200 reschedule fee to attend one of the live, online sessions of the PMP Boot Camp. Within the notification period, only student substitutions will be permitted.
